2016-2017 Scholarship Recipient - CHRISTINA CROPPER
Upon graduation, Christina was recruited by the nationwide Teach for America program and is currently living in Memphis, TN. She is employed as a high school special education teacher in South Memphis. Christina misses being in Big Ten country, but still makes sure to catch all Penn State football games and loves showing the Nittany Lion spirit in the south. (updated April 2018)

Sean works for Medasource, a healthcare IT consulting and recruiting company, selling niche talent services for healthcare IT and healthcare information management projects. Sean lives in Hoboken, NJ and works in northern New Jersey. (updated April 2018)

2015-2016 Scholarship Recipient - SARAH BRUCE
After graduation in December 2017, Sarah joined AmeriCorps as a Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) for the National Park Service (NPS) and moved to Anchorage, Alaska to begin working with AmeriCorps and the National Park Service (NPS). Sara' advises us that there are 52 CVAs around the country who intern in different National Parks and are essentially volunteer-coordinators. The NPS manages a Volunteer-In-Parks (VIP) program that hires volunteers to help with duties such as visitor services, interpretation, and education programs ... just to name a few. Sarah’s park is the Anchorage Alaska Public Lands Information Center (AAPLIC) located in Downtown Anchorage. The park site is managed by the NPS, but is an inter-agency network that links together the NPS, US Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and AK State agencies to help visitors plan their trips, as well as provide community outreach programs to local schools and community groups.
It is Sara's job to hire, train, and support the volunteers at her NPS site. (updated September 19, 2018)

After graduation, Erica moved to Boston, MA to work for a small medical device startup, called Little Sparrows Technologies (LST), as a Product Engineer.
LST is developing a portable, low-energy consuming phototherapy device to treat infant jaundice anywhere in the world, especially focusing on low-resource global regions. She was the first full-time Engineer hired by the company and has been working there for over three years. As a Product Engineer, Erica manages the regulatory and product development processes of the company. She loves the Boston area and has connected with many Penn Staters through the Boston Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association! (updated September 19, 2018)

Cameron is currently in his 2nd year at SALUS University's Philadelphia School of Optometry. It's a four-year doctorate program where he has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship for his 3.91 GPA. (updated April 2018)

Casey said .. After graduating from the best college ever, I gained more experience by working seasonal contracts in scientific fields and went to graduate school and earned my Masters degree in Environmental Science with specific concentrations of Natural Resource Management and Biological Conservation. I worked as a Park Ranger, educator of Environmental Literacy, nationwide data collector, and Fisheries Field Researcher at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. I also became a Certified Beekeeper and have a company called Chesapeake Honey and Hives. I am currently publishing my thesis, which focuses on threats to Honeybee populations and applying to earn a doctoral degree at the University of Maryland. I am still working at DNR conducting research to assess the health of Maryland streams and hope to continue learning every day and doing what I love as a career.

She has since moved on to multiple supply chain roles at Stanley Black and Decker in Towson, MD and is an active member of the SBD Women's Network and Wellness Committee. Melissa currently resides in Baltimore and enjoys her place in the Canton neighborhood. (updated April 2018)

Christina is a Chemist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in downtown Washington DC, working in the Pesticide Data Program. When not working

After graduating with her Bachelor’s degree from Penn State in 2014, Mariam continued her education and earned her Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Georgetown University in 2017. After graduating with a degree in Health Policy and Administration and being on the Lionettes dance team, Allison continued her passion for healthcare and sports with Johnson and Johnson, selling sports medical devices in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. She is thankful everyday to be able to support orthopedic surgeons with their needs in the operating room. She currently resides in Rockville, MD where on her days off she also teaches dance to help high school students achieve their college dance team goals and hopes for possibly one day being on the Lionettes Dance Team! After graduating from Penn State, Pete worked for Northrop Grumman as a mechanical engineer on a wide range of defense programs. While working in Philadelphia, he earned his M.S. in mechanical engineering from Drexel University (but remained a Nittany Lion at heart). Last June, Pete and his wife Elizabeth (’13 H&HD), moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Pete now works as a manufacturing engineer at Photonis USA, focusing on traveling wave tubes and RF power amplifiers. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports, traveling, and attending Penn State football games. (updated November 30, 2018)

Jackson graduated in 2014 with a degree in Advertising/Public Relations. Since then he has been working for Tenable, a cyber security software company based in Columbia, MD and is currently on Tenable's channel sales team - managing the company’s largest partner in the IT security space. Amanda developed her passion for public health while studying Biobehavioral Health at Penn State. She graduated in 2013 and went on to complete her Masters in Public Health (MPH) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. During graduate school she spent time conducting mental health research in rural India. Amanda currently works at the American Medical Association in Washington DC, where she is on the Environmental Intelligence and Strategic Analytics team. In her spare time, Amanda volunteers with several DC-based organizations and has been backpacking around the world. (updated April 2018)

Ashley lives outside of Philadelphia and works as a Compliance Manager for a payroll company. He worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 5 years as an income maintenance caseworker for the Philadelphia County Assistance office and as a regional representative for the Public School Employee’s Retirements System. He joined the Air National Guard in 2014 as an Aircraft Loadmaster and served in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in 2017. He currently works as an independent contractor on a large data management project for a large electrical supplier. He and his wife live in Kennett Square outside of Philadelphia.
